| Amazon.com's e-Books & Docs category is a bellwether for the e-publishing industry. In addition to PDF versions of print books, Amazon.com stocks a plethora of business-related online-only PDF works. If you're interested in what the market will bear, or the publishers who represent business PDF documents, this is a good place to start your research. PDF offerings range from the $1.99(US) "Really Bad PowerPoint (and How To Avoid It)" by Seth Godin to the multi-thousand dollar reports by IDC and other analyst firms. You'll also find a large selection of free white papers (who knew?). And all the Amazon.com site niceties apply - sign up for email notification when new white papers become available in your subjects of interest.
| Adobe may be the most frustrating company this editor has ever dealt with online. That being said, Adobe is the maker of Acrobat, the PDF tool of choice, so deal I did. Did you know that you could create PDFs online with Adobe's Web-based tool for $9.95(US) per month? You'd never know it from their site. Go directly to this URL to subscribe and access this tool. Tip - don't bother with the free trial. Pay for the subscription right from the start, because the trial version eliminates some of the features you will need to create a professional document, like linkable URLs (how's that for a marketing trick?). After subscribing, you will be able to PDF to your heart's content by uploading documents, capturing Web pages or scanning printed documents. The process is easy, but if you run into any problems go to a PDF reference site for answers, as Adobe's online help is anything but helpful.
| Gotta love Google. Those sharp folks have automatic PDF-to-text conversion which allows PDF-based content to be indexed and searched via the search engine. Since most PDF documents cannot be indexed, many search engines have been oblivious to the content of the millions of PDF files available on the Web. Not Google. Do a standard search on your topic of interest, say "marketing," and if a PDF document matches that search, Google will provide a link to the PDF itself, and to Google's HTML version. We've found it works best if you add the term "PDF" to your search query, as in "marketing PDF."
| ITPapers bills itself as the "Yellow Pages of White Papers," with links to over 39,000 white papers in categories ranging from Professions and Industries to Hardware, Software and Internet. Search for precisely what you need, or browse through the neatly organized listings. Summaries and visitor reviews help guide your selection. Once registered, you can save your searches or white papers of interest, and sign up for notification when new papers are published. This is a great way to find out who's publishing what in your industry while picking up some new knowledge at the same time.
| Are you thinking about making money from your unique knowledge by selling ebooks or information products? Right in our own backyard, industry resource MarketingSherpa is doing just that at the MarketingSherpa Knowledge Store. By focusing on creating and promoting targeted, niche information products, MarketingSherpa has been a forerunner of the i-commerce trend. Surf on over for on e-commerce, email marketing, Internet content, search engine optimization and positioning firms and much more.
