    MarketingPilotEmail to a Colleague

How to justify the expenditures on a marketing campaign? Not so difficult if it's a success, not so easy if it flops. MarketingPilot's online application automates the details of campaign and project management: media buying; budget tracking; brand, product and document management; production and direct marketing campaign processes; and planning and reporting. Team members can pinpoint the details of a campaign's progress by viewing the associated online screens. Data and information is cross-populated, so it doesn't need to be re-entered. As an analytical tool for the entire marketing team, it takes the concept of sales or campaign accountability to the department level.

Marketo Search MarketingEmail to a Colleague

This company focuses on automating lead acquisition and nurturing campaigns for B2B PPC search engine marketing, email marketing and online advertising. It works like this: Keyword management, bidding and optimization (which they handle) drive traffic to your site. Landing pages (which they handle) are tested to maximize conversions. Your leads are passed to Salesforce.com to connect your PPC advertising with your other lead-driving ventures. Then revenue is tracked to give you metrics on how well this is all doing. The company also publishes a very informative blog covering B2B SEO resources, trends and insights. As a matter of fact, this editor now considers it a must-read. The program is Web-based and integrates with Salesforce.com and Google AdWords. At the time of writing Marketo was in beta mode and was inviting B2B professionals to join the program. BTW, bona fides include beaucoup venture backing and the former President and COO of Epiphany as CEO.

The other benefit of this service is that you do not have to involve your IT department in order to use it. At the time of writing, Sales Genius offered a complimentary trial of the service and subscription pricing started at $49(US) per month.

    SelectoryEmail to a Colleague

This database holds more than 14 million company records, which you can search to create a tailored direct mail or call contact list. You may select up to 35 parameters to narrow your search, such as geographic location, size of company, D-U-N-S number, industry SIC or NAICS codes, product categories, etc. You can also specify the contact criteria you need, such as job function or title, executive biographies, URL, etc.

To test it out, this editor targeted SIC codes for management and marketing consultants nationwide who might be pitched to partner on projects where her expertise is needed (you can search by keyword for SIC codes if you don't know what they are). She received 126,777 records, many of which were university or city/country programs. Those types of organizations were then excluded, and voila! A national list of potential lead bringers was hers. The resulting information may be downloaded or directly imported into your CRM system. At the time of writing a complimentary trial was available. The foundation of the database is D&B's DUNSRight quality assurance process.

    SimpleFeedEmail to a Colleague

This company is focused on helping companies use RSS (Real Simple Syndication) technology to nurture customer relationships and generate new leads and revenue. It offers tools for marketers to implement, manage and modify customer communications programs using RSS without the need for IT department involvement. The RSS marketing services include the ability to easily set up feeds that your site visitors can subscribe to, such as product updates, customer support information or even e-commerce sales. Imagine a sports team offering click-to-buy merchandise via RSS on key game nights and you'll get the drift. Marketing companies can import content directly from Web pages, edit it and then publish it via RSS. Extensive tracking reports to analyze the impact of your RSS marketing program are also part of the service. At the time of writing, SimpleFeed had added a security feature that incorporates user name and password requirements, if desired, to your RSS feeds so that sensitive information and financial details could be securely transmitted from customer to corporation. At the site you'll find tons of information about the business applications of RSS, news and case studies as well as more about the technology.

    TendenciEmail to a Colleague

Tendenci is an interesting company that offers a variety of information-gathering modules for your individual website or any number of websites across a brand. It was primarily created for membership marketing but the applications extend to any kind of sales-based company that needs to interact with its prospects online. For example, there are modules for event registration and follow up, email marketing, blogging, RSS distribution and lead generation capture via contact forms. As the company states, "The submission of a contact form is the most important action that occurs on your site. Think of it as your website's Senior Prom and Graduation all rolled into one." This module will notify you whenever a site visitor fills out any kind of contact form across any of your sites. With the click of a button, that contact and its source history can be sent to a salesperson or added to a database like Act or Outlook (this information can be transmitted in bulk as well). You also get a one-page Contacts Report that summarizes contact and referral activity for sales leads across all of your Internet properties, neatly divided into new visitors and returning visitors, so you get the macro view but can link on any activity and get individual information on the prospect as well. Modules are priced individually.

    thinkingVOICEEmail to a Colleague

thinkingVOICE offers "click-to-call" technology with a twist. Their hosted CallActivator service allows potential or existing customers to click on a link and ask for a call from you. This link may appear on your website, within an auction listing, within a Google AdWords ad or other advertisement or within an HTML email. When your lead clicks on the link, he is first presented with your custom-branded form, which he must fill out with his name, phone number and question for you. Once he submits the form by clicking on the "Push To Talk" button, you are notified wherever you are that a customer or potential customer has requested a call (for example, if you're at your computer, you'll get a pop up message on your screen). If the lead looks promising and you choose to talk to your customer or client, CallActivator will first immediately ring your phone and then dial the lead, connecting the two of you at once.

One of the real benefits of this technology is that if you're not available to talk, or if you don't want to take the call at that current moment, the caller's details will be routed to you by email. You can choose to take those calls that look promising, and follow up less promising leads via email at your convenience. Because you know what your clients are customers are looking for based upon the forms they filled out, you can route responses to the appropriate people within your organization - and you eliminate time-consuming voicemail follow up. As a result, time spent fielding calls is dramatically reduced and you are able to hone in on hot prospects with answers in hand. The service is reasonably priced for the small business owner at $4.95(US) per month plus a 10 cents-per-minute usage fees during calls. A no-cost trial is available at the site.

    TSNNEmail to a Colleague

TSNN is an ancient (by online standards) trade show directory that has only gotten bigger and better over the years. If your sales lead generation efforts encompass the trade show circuit, then this is where you will find everything that you need to know about upcoming events, exhibitors, venues and more. You can search the directory in a multitude of ways. Locate specific shows within your industry and compile your own lists, or buy mailing lists for key groups such as frequent exhibitors or small business owners. You can also explore exhibition industry profiles, in which industry sectors such as medical, technology, etc. are analyzed in-depth. Or you can review directories of trade show suppliers, display companies and more to get your own show presence in shape.
