Where in the world are the people who visit your website coming from? Now you can find out using a Google Maps "mashup" - a marriage of a visual map overlaid with a data set such as your website's log files. Simply copy and paste the single line of javascript available here to your website and you will be given your own complimentary URL that lets you track the visitors to your website using Google Maps. This is just one interesting example of the business and marketing applications of the Google Maps mashup phenomenon.

Matt Cutts is the head of Google's Webspam team and the go-to guy for webmasters, search engine optimization (SEO) people and tech reporters seeking his insider position on all things Google. Even his company calls him a "Google Guru." This link points to his personal blog, which mixes Google-specific links, tips and advice with personal observations. Check here first if you have a nagging question about how Google operates, and it's likely Matt has answered it with a relaxed, plain-talk explanation. Although Matt's blog has a distinctly personal tone, he organizes it like a pro, with a quick-reference guide organized by topic along the right side for those in a rush. You can toggle between "easy" and "pro" modes to view the site; the easy version appears easier to navigate. It supports a paid service (the 14-day demo is $1) but offers plenty of complimentary information and services including a blog, newsletter, five-part podcast on backlinking and a page full of related links to other resources. One of the items that caught our eye was the Future PageRank Tool, which is a little piece of nirvana for the PageRank obsessed. It queries Google's various data centers to check for any upcoming changes in PageRank values for a given URL. If queried during a Google update (or "Google Dance," as it is known to insiders), you might get a glimpse of upcoming changes in your chosen URL's PageRank value. If you don't use the Google Toolbar, at this site you will also find a tool that will give you the PageRank of any site, as well as a PageRank Search tool, which queries Google for the keyword or phrase that you have entered but also includes the PageRank of every site on your results list.

If your site's news content is syndicated by Google News for distribution, it can have quite a positive impact on your site's search ranking on Google.
