The Eisenberg brothers have moved on from their previous gigs at FutureNow and GrokDotCom, but their blog remains a necessary resource in any
website optimizer's toolbox.
Posts cover both the nuts-and-bolts aspects of fine-tuning site performance, analysis of new optimization or analytics tools, reports on developments at major players
such as Amazon and some editorializing on best and worst practices in the industry, such as Jeffrey's nudge to Apple about making its Reminders app work across platforms, not just on a
desktop computer.
Note: Posts don't necessarily appear in chronological order. Although the newest post will always be the first one you see on the page, you will have to scroll down
past previous years' posts to find fresh material.
This blog is the next best thing to being at any of Tim Ash's Conversion Conferences hosted around the world, including San Francisco, New York and Chicago.
Some posts are written by the conference speakers themselves while others are transcripts from Q&A sessions with thought leaders such as Howard Kaplan (FutureNow),
Mike Volpe (HubSpot) and Amy Africa (Eight by Eight).
Many are more in-depth than the typical blog post, incorporating screenshots and video. Want more? The blog maintains an archive of material from earlier conferences.
Melissa Mackey takes on the hot issues facing experienced search marketers with a dash of humor and a different viewpoint, reflecting her other job, as a PPC
specialist with a Michigan-based online marketing agency.
One of her most popular posts earned head nods from other PPC marketers: "Can An Intern Do Your PPC?" (Answer: "No.") She also lays out guidelines for avoiding
failure on tricky issues such as bidding on competitor brands and dealing with AdWords representatives. Her explanations are jargon-free and focused on helping you succeed rather than just crowing
about her own successes.
Many bloggers take themselves and their subject matter very seriously. Self-proclaimed "Conversion Scientist" Brian Massey is not one of them.
He and "Senior Fellow" Jeff Sexton have created a blog that is a smorgasbord of quick tips, links to useful content in other blogs and detailed but accessible
accounts of their own laboratory developments.
Two recent posts worth checking out:
"It's People! Analytics is People!" The fifth paragraph of this post links to an informative
and fun video explaining segmentation and reporting in Google Analytics.
Want conversion-related case histories? This blog, published by Vancouver, BC, agency WiderFunnel, has dozens of posts reporting on the results of testing and
optimization work it has done with clients.
Agency founders Raquel Hirsch and Chris Goward, along with their staff members and occasional guest bloggers, post tips and recommend strategies for the kinds of
thorny conversion issues that bedevil Internet Marketers. Recent posts have listed ways to test more accurately and a "Wall of Shame" for subscribe/unsubscribe operations.
Posts appear relatively infrequently compared with other blogs, but whenever one appears, it's worth your time to read.
A host of conversion-focused thought leaders look to this blog for insights, commentary and advice. Marketing Director Oli Gardner and others from the firm, which
pioneered a self-service landing-page creation and optimization tool, get down in the optimization trenches. Some posts are exhaustively detailed how-to posts, while others are humorous asides
on the optimization scene.
Among the how-to posts are blueprints for creating specific kinds of landing pages, such as one that leverages social networking to promote an ebook download.
Unbounce also collects real-world examples of landing pages, CTAs and other integral aspects of Internet Marketing.
