=============== Publisher's Note =============== Top Ten Google Tips for Marketers While Google is ace at delivering standard relevant search results, most people don't realize the scores of useful things it can do for marketers. I've culled through hundreds of useful ways for marketers to use Google and give you hereunder my top picks for cool Google marketing tips: 1. Put the command link:YourDomainHere.com in the search field to see who's pointing at your site. Then do it by putting www. in front of your domain name and you'll see even more results. 2. Put the command site:YourDomainHere.com in the search field to see all the pages on your site that Google has indexed. Then do it with the w's. Then do it to your competitors' sites. You'd be surprised what you find. I've found new business presentations, graphics for clients, et al. 3. Google as Phone Book: Example - In the Google search field, put the command phonebook:Target Boston, MA to get the address and phone number of any Target in the Boston area. If you enter an area code and phone number in the Google search field, it will do a reverse lookup and provide the name, city and exact address (if available) that corresponds to that phone number. 4. Google Toolbar: Download this toolbar for your browser for two reasons: a) You can use the backward links dropdown option to easily see who is linking to the site you're currently on; and b.) The search field in the toolbar lets you quickly search any site you're on (providing the pages are in html and not in a database). 5. Similar Pages: Have you noticed next to each search result from Google there's a hyperlink to a "Similar pages" offering? Click on it. The results are different than the search you just conducted. It's sort of like Amazon's "Those who bought this book also bought..." 6. Search the Search Results: Ever get frustrated with 4 million relevant search results? Well, you can further refine those results by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking on the "Search within results" link. 7. Google as Calculator: Simply put your equation into the Google search field and hit search. Voila, your answser. 8. Flight Locator: Put the airline and flight # in the Google search field to see where in route that flight is. OK, this isn't obviously marketing-oriented, but it's neat nevertheless. 9. Where's Your Overnight Package? Put in the FedEx or UPS tracking number in the Google search field to find out where in route your package is. 10. Laser-Target Searching: Use the advanced search feature, or put quote marks around your search phrase. This way, those words will be found in close proximity to each other, rather than scattered around the page or website. Bonus Tip:
